Remember when you are arranging a vase of flowers whether it is facing or all round: two-or three dimensional always walk round it and look at the opposite side and the flanks to check that the balance is correct from every angle. Too often this is forgotten and a lovely arrangement viewed from the front turns out to be a complete failure if you look at it from either side.
Another fault is in not stepping back to see how the arrangement as a whole is developing. Very often the decorator works too long at close range only to find afterwards when looking at the decoration that is not in proportion and it consequently has to be taken apart again. You should continually walk away from your design and view it from various angles as you proceed. Only in this way can you judge the full effect of arrangement correctly. Whether you are aiming at creating wedding flowers as an artistic achievement or those for love compliments the varying shapes complement each other. The use of too much material detracts from this and tends to spoil the arrangement.!
