One day towards winter end when you feel that you cannot wait longer for spring to arrive go and cut branches of flowering shrubs or trees to bring indoors. Be careful you do not want to mutilate any plant and you will not if you take branches that should be pruned later. The best plan is to start the forcing process about a month before the particular tree or shrub would normally burst into leaf. Plunge the branches in warm water and give them lots of light as they open.
An eye for arrangement
Nothing looks more definitely wrong in floral arrangement than one which has aimed at having depth and in which the decorator at the same time has contrived to place all the flowers with their heads forming a smooth curve. A sea of stalks is invariably visible at the same time below the outer crust of the decoration and the whole effect is extremely ugly and inartistic. Dipping some of the flowers can immediately get rid of the majority of the awkward lines. It makes a lot of difference!
